Cracker Night Cleanup is the massive morning-after effort to clear hundreds of tonnes of firework debris from Northern Territory streets and beaches. The cleanup began early in the morning on July 2nd, immediately following Territory Day celebrations on July 1st. Rapid Creek Landcare Group members and local residents headed to the beaches at sunrise to pick up waterlogged cardboard and plastic debris before the tide carried it into the ocean. Uncollected paper, plastic, and chemical residue risk washing into local waterways and marine environments if not removed quickly.
