Monsoon vine thicket restoration

February 3rd saw half a dozen new members joining the first working bee of 2024 at The Spit near the mouth of Rapid Creek. They planted out some 50 seedlings of Sterculia quadrifida and Celtis philippensis propagated from seed collected on site last year. To minimise exposure to harsh afternoon sun the seedlings were mainly planted on the eastern side of existing trees to take advantage of their shade. Two days later each plant received 20 to 40 litres of water at the first of fortnightly watering bees during what is expected to be an extended El Nino dry season.
